About

When I taught secondary school, I used to tell students that they should follow their dreams, that there was more than one road to reach their goal, and that persistence pays off.

Well, here I am in retirement and following my dream of learning about and making wine!

This passion started many years ago when I founded a wine club (The Grape Friends) with a group of 16 friends interested in knowing how to taste wine, which foods to pair with which wines, learning to recognize specific grape characteristics or flavour/aroma profiles, and understanding what wines they really liked.

Having completed my wine education at Niagara College (Winery & Viticulture Technician Program, graduated 2015), the French Wine Scholar program with Wine Scholar Guild, and now the WSET Level 4 Diploma program with IWEG, I have learned a lot … but there is always more to know and that’s what makes the world of wine so fascinating!

Part of living the dream has been moving to Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario’s wine country. Small town living, surrounded by vineyards, wineries, orchards and farms makes eating and drinking local easy.

Writing this blog has also been educational and enjoyable. So why not follow me as I continue to explore the world’s wine regions and taste wine!

Cheers,

  1. Hi Lidija,

I was wondering, as I’m researching the concept of ‘terroir’, if you had maybe a broader and more substantiated vision on this phenomenon? Does it “exist” in your view and if so, what are the characteristics and what can be the impact/relevance?

    Good vibes!

    1. Hello again, terroir is a concept that is somewhat elusive but here is my understanding – it is the microclimate of a certain parcel of vineyard (soil, climate, growing conditions, and human activity including culture) that makes it special, different, and reveals its identity (a sense of place). To me it’s similar to a fingerprint – it’s unique. So it follows that wines coming from single vineyards project terroir better.
